The Laika Bar

Katerina sang a blinder last Friday night, before rushing off to Inverloch for an even more impressive performance on the main stage.

This week sees a debut Jazz gig for Joys Njambi, who amongst other things, is the lead singer with The Grand Wazoo. Accompanied by Doug Kuhn on bass, meself on piano, and who knows who else…

Laika Bar has very kindly booked a large party in for a function, so the joint will be jumping. Jump in yourself, enjoy a cocktail under the palm trees, and hear just how good a singer Joys is. Excited about this one…

The Laika Bar

Last Friday, The Justine Jones Trio played at the Laika as part of the Summer Jazz in St Kilda event. It didn’t burn to the ground, so this week sees Katerina Myskova doing her jazz thing, which she does extremely well, accompanied by Daniel Pickard on Bass, meself on drums and the Captain de Chaos. The Laika Bar

Last week, we played two nights, pulling a reasonable crowd, to hear Shimona swing the proverbials off some jazz standards, and Sevil smoothing it all out. Props to Kip Dale, who played both nights impeccably, to Jeremy Yeo, and James Osborne, two of the best drummers around.

This week Sevil Sabah is back for a run through her Inverloch set, with Chelsea Allen on drums, John Calamatta on sax, and the Haircut back on bass.

At the Laika Bar

We are enormously grateful to the several Jammers who turned up to listen to the Jazz last Friday. A hot, hot set from Jen Salisbury, and we hope you weren’t too put out by the interruption for Sahara Inferno’s sensational burlesque. Sahara will be doing it again on Saturday 13th February. You have been warned.

This week, Katerina Myskova will be rehearsing her Inverloch set, with John Calamatta (sax), Eiji on bass, possibly Marek on drums, and meself on piano. One of me fave singers, she can belt it with the best of them. Bliss!

The Laika Bar : Last Session for the year

Susie, nothing if not glamorous, will be fronting the regular rhythm section this week, all of whom have promised to misbehave nicely, for the final session for 2015. The Laika is on a roll at present, and the weather is conducive to sitting under the palms sipping on a wine or a cocktail as the sun goes down. Sounds perfect,, although you can still hear the music.

clip_image002She had better be good, Katerina Myskova last week will be a hard act to follow…
