A dark and stormy night at the Royal Standard

It was raining so hard when we got there, that one would doubt the band turning up, let alone anyone else – but turn up they did, and the few hardy souls who braved the weather got to hear La Myskova at her best – another night of latin and swing, delivered with panache, with yet another different line up.

This week, singer Joys Njambi (Brighton) steps in, with saxophonist Yu (Japan), drummer Michelle (Hawthorn probably), Kip Dale on bass (Texas) and meself on piano. Joys (see A Fete Worse than Death below) is actually a highly experienced singer who is amusing herself by slumming it with the mere mortals. Michelle is a drummer with a blues background, Kip Dale has a Western Swing background, and we all thought Yu sounded pretty good at the Leinster two weeks ago.

Should be a disaster – do come along!

Joys Njambi with the Captain Chaos Quartet, Royal Standard Hotel, 333 William Street, North Melbourne – from 7.30 – 9.30pm. Friday 28th October
